Allahabad HC Orders Intensive Search for Missing 13-Year-Old from UP's Bahraich

On Tuesday, the Allahabad High Court issued a directive to the Station House Officer of Chandni Bagh, Panipat, Haryana, urging them to exert maximum efforts in locating a 13-year-old boy who is missing. The boy originally belongs to Bahraich district in Uttar Pradesh.

Justice Mohd. Faiz Alam Khan's bench additionally requested a comprehensive report detailing all measures taken to locate the missing child, along with documentary evidence. The State Director General of Police has been furnished with a copy of the order for adherence.

In response to a habeas corpus petition filed by the mother, Veena Devi, seeking the whereabouts of her missing son, Beeru, the single judge issued this order. Veena Devi approached the court after her own attempts to locate her son proved unsuccessful.

Veena Devi's case stated that her 13-year-old son, Beeru, who is a permanent resident of Bahraich, had accompanied his cousins to Panipat, Haryana, where he had been working for a few months. Last month, Beeru was reported missing, prompting his parents to make efforts to find him. However, despite their efforts, they were unable to obtain any substantial leads regarding his whereabouts.

The boy's mother also sought assistance from the local police authorities; however, no action was initiated. Consequently, she approached the High Court with a habeas corpus petition. During the hearing, the Court was informed that a missing person report had been lodged at Chandni Bagh police station in Panipat, Haryana, based on information provided by Amarjeet from Bahraich. Efforts were already in progress to locate the missing person/detainee.

Considering these circumstances, the Court instructed the Station House Officer to exert all possible efforts to locate the missing detainee and to submit a report to the court. This report should include documentary evidence detailing all efforts made to search for and trace the detainee.

The matter will be heard next on June 14.
