Former Madras High Court judge Justice V Sivagnanam has reportedly gone untraceable in Nepal following flash floods that have affected parts of the country.

The Delhi Tamil Advocates Association has approached Chief Justice of India (CJI) Surya Kant, urging him to intervene and request the concerned government authorities to take immediate steps to trace the retired judge and ensure his safe return to India.

In a letter addressed to the CJI on August 30, the Association stated that Justice Sivagnanam had been travelling in Nepal as part of a pilgrimage when the flash floods struck. While several other pilgrims travelling with him were rescued, there has been no contact with the former judge.

According to the Association, Justice Sivagnanam last spoke to his wife on August 26.

The letter further stated that people travelling in another bus, who were rescued near the APF Nepal Border Outpost at Timure, told the family that Justice Sivagnanam's bus was located only around 100–200 metres away from theirs.

The Association expressed serious concern over the judge's safety and whereabouts, stating that the information received from the rescued pilgrims had heightened the family's apprehension.

Justice Sivagnanam had a distinguished judicial career spanning 34 years. Following his retirement from the judiciary, the Supreme Court designated him as a Senior Advocate in July 2025.
