More than 20 judges of the Gujarat High Court are expected to attend the oath-taking ceremony of Justice Alpesh Yeshvant Kogje as the Chief Justice of the Madhya Pradesh High Court on September 10.

The Gujarat High Court website has issued notices indicating that 16 judges will be unavailable on the day. According to sources cited by Bar & Bench, around four more judges are also expected to remain unavailable.

The Gujarat High Court currently has a sanctioned strength of 33 judges.

A significant number of lawyers from Gujarat are also expected to travel to Madhya Pradesh to attend the ceremony.

The Central Government cleared Justice Kogje’s appointment on September 5, following the recommendation of the Supreme Court Collegium at its meeting held on August 31.

Justice Kogje’s elevation marks his appointment as the Chief Justice of the Madhya Pradesh High Court.
