Advocate Rohit Sud was elected as the President of the Punjab and Haryana High Court Bar Association (PHHCBA) on Saturday after a closely contested election.
Polling for the executive body of the Bar Association was conducted on Friday, with counting continuing till around midnight.
Sud secured 1,483 votes, defeating his nearest rival Senior Advocate Parminder Singh Sekhon, who polled 1,387 votes. The margin of victory was 96 votes. A total of six candidates had contested for the post of President.
Meanwhile, Advocate Ashish Bishnoi was elected Vice-President of the Bar Association. He received 1,856 votes, defeating Advocate Sunil Agnihotri, who secured 1,346 votes.
For other key posts, Advocate Parampreet Singh Bajwa (Harry) was elected Secretary with 1,827 votes, while Dr Kirandeep Kaur won the post of Joint Secretary with 1,321 votes. Advocate Ashish Rana was elected Treasurer after securing 1,231 votes.
In the election for Lady Member, Advocate Kamla Malik emerged victorious with 1,856 votes, defeating Dr Rinki K Singhania, who received 1,684 votes.
