The West Bengal government has appointed Senior Advocates Rajdeep Mazumder, Nilanjan Bhattacharyya and Dibyendra Narayan Ray as law officers for the State before the Calcutta High Court.

Mazumder has been appointed as Additional Advocate General, while Bhattacharyya and Ray have been appointed as Senior Standing Counsel and Government Pleader, respectively.

The appointments come after the BJP assumed power in West Bengal.

Mazumder had earlier served as Deputy Solicitor General of India for the Calcutta High Court. He was also among the lawyers designated as Senior Advocates by the High Court in November 2024.

Bhattacharyya mainly practices before the Calcutta High Court in matters relating to constitutional writs, civil disputes, corporate arbitration and service law.

Ray, who practices on the appellate side of the Calcutta High Court, deals primarily with constitutional, property and service law matters, including pension and employee benefit disputes. In 2018, the High Court had recommended his name for elevation as a judge, but the recommendation was returned by the Supreme Court Collegium in 2019.
