Charaideo District and Sessions Judge Abubakkar Siddique delivered the verdict on Monday, convicting 12 men and 11 women for their involvement in the crime. Along with life imprisonment, each convict has been fined ₹5,000.

The court also directed the convicts to pay ₹8 lakh in compensation to the victim’s family.

The gruesome incident took place in Jalha village, where the victim was subjected to brutal physical torture before being set on fire by a mob, according to police reports. The case had triggered widespread outrage and a 13-year-long trial that culminated in Monday’s verdict.
