Bombay HC expressed displeasure with Wankhede's actions of disclosing the chats with Shah Rukh Khan: Aryan Khan Ransom Case

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has raised objections to Sameer Wankhede, the former Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) Mumbai zonal director, revealing chats with Bollywood actor Shah Rukh Khan.

These chats are related to the time when Wankhede's team arrested Shah Rukh Khan's son, Aryan Khan, in a drug case in 2021. The CBI expressed its concerns during the proceedings at the Bombay High Court.

In response to the CBI's objections, the Bombay High Court has issued a restraining order on Wankhede, prohibiting him from interacting with the media. The court has imposed certain conditions on Wankhede, including refraining from publishing any material related to the case through WhatsApp or any other means, avoiding giving press statements, and not tampering with evidence.

The court expressed displeasure with Wankhede's actions of disclosing the chats with Shah Rukh Khan in his petition and subsequently sharing them with the media.

The court questioned the necessity of Wankhede circulating the chats while the matter was still subjudice. The court viewed Wankhede's decision to engage with the media during the ongoing case unfavorably.

To ensure compliance with the court's order, Wankhede has been directed to provide an undertaking on affidavit by the end of the day, confirming his commitment to adhere to the court's conditions.

The case revolves around allegations that Wankhede demanded favors from Shah Rukh Khan during the arrest of Aryan Khan in the drug case. Wankhede had filed a petition seeking the quashing of the FIR lodged against him by the CBI, which accuses him of extortion and corruption. The Bombay High Court has extended Wankhede's interim protection from arrest until June 8 while imposing restrictions on his interactions with the media.
