The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has registered an FIR in connection with the death of Disha Salian, former manager of late actor Sushant Singh Rajput, naming several individuals, including Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Aaditya Thackeray and actors Dino Morea and Rhea Chakraborty, officials said.

The FIR was registered on Monday, nearly two weeks after the Bombay High Court directed the CBI to take over the investigation into Salian’s death.

The case has been registered under provisions relating to murder, gang rape, criminal conspiracy, destruction of evidence and furnishing false information.

According to the FIR, the role of several people requires investigation, including Aaditya Thackeray, Dino Morea, Sooraj Pancholi and Rhea Chakraborty, along with doctors and medical staff allegedly involved in the delayed post-mortem examination.

The FIR also records allegations against former Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray and others regarding an alleged conspiracy and subsequent cover-up. It further alleges that certain public servants and police officers may have been involved in the destruction or suppression of case records, fabrication of official documents and misuse of government resources. These allegations are part of the investigation and have not been established by the court.

Salian, 28, was found dead on June 8, 2020, after allegedly falling from the 14th floor of a residential building in Mumbai’s Malad area. Her death occurred days before Sushant Singh Rajput was found dead at his Bandra residence. Mumbai Police had initially registered an Accidental Death Report (ADR) in Salian’s case.

The CBI’s investigation follows a petition filed by Salian’s father, Satish Salian, before the Bombay High Court. He had alleged that his daughter was gang-raped and murdered and raised concerns over the manner in which Mumbai Police investigated the case.

On September 2, the Bombay High Court directed the CBI to investigate the matter after raising concerns over the police probe. The court observed that the investigation raised “more questions than answers” and pointed to alleged discrepancies. It also noted that Salian’s family had not been provided copies of the post-mortem report and ADR even six years after her death.

Last week, Satish Salian appeared before the CBI and recorded his statement as part of the ongoing investigation. He reportedly repeated allegations against several individuals, including Uddhav Thackeray, Aaditya Thackeray and others.

The Mumbai Police had earlier concluded that Salian’s death was a case of suicide. The CBI will now examine the allegations and evidence surrounding her death as part of its investigation.

The agency had also sought documents and records related to the case from the police to facilitate its probe.
