The Central government has appointed Justice Puthichira Sam Koshy as the Acting Chief Justice of the Telangana High Court, following the transfer of Acting Chief Justice Sujoy Paul to the Calcutta High Court.
Justice Koshy will hold the position until Justice Aparesh Kumar Singh, currently Chief Justice of the Tripura High Court, assumes charge as the Chief Justice of Telangana High Court.
The appointment was made under Article 223 of the Constitution of India, as per the official notification issued on July 17.
Justice Koshy began his legal practice in 1991, specializing in civil, constitutional, service, and labour matters. He practiced before the Madhya Pradesh High Court at Jabalpur and later at the Chhattisgarh High Court in Bilaspur.
He served as Government Advocate (2002–2004) and Deputy Advocate General (2005–2006), and was actively involved with Hidayatullah National Law University in academic roles.
Justice Koshy was appointed as an Additional Judge of the Chhattisgarh High Court in 2013 and became a permanent judge in 2016. He was transferred to the Telangana High Court and took oath as a judge on July 27, 2023.
