The Central Government has approved the appointment of six additional judges of the Bombay High Court as permanent judges.
The Ministry of Law and Justice issued a notification on June 6, 2026, announcing the appointment of Justices Nivedita Prakash Mehta, Prafulla Surendrakumar Khubalkar, Ashwin Damodar Bhobe, Rohit Wasudeo Joshi, Advait Mahendra Sethna and Pravin Sheshrao Patil as permanent judges of the High Court.
According to the notification, the appointments have been made by the President under Article 217(1) of the Constitution and will take effect from the date the judges assume charge of their respective offices.
Justice Pravin Sheshrao Patil was appointed as an additional judge in January 2025, while the other five judges were elevated as additional judges in October 2024.
With their appointment as permanent judges, they will continue to serve on the Bombay High Court from the date they formally take charge.
The Bombay High Court currently functions with 56 permanent judges and 20 additional judges against a sanctioned strength of 71 permanent judges and 23 additional judges.
