Centre Approves Transfer of Justice Lisa Gill to Andhra Pradesh HC

The Central Government has notified the transfer of Justice Lisa Gill from the Punjab and Haryana High Court to the Andhra Pradesh High Court.

Union Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal announced the development in a post on social media, stating that the President of India, in exercise of the powers conferred under the Constitution and after consultation with the Chief Justice of India, has ordered the transfer of Justice Gill to serve as a Judge of the Andhra Pradesh High Court.

The transfer follows a recommendation made last week by the Supreme Court Collegium, in view of the upcoming retirement of the incumbent Chief Justice of the Andhra Pradesh High Court.

Her transfer is part of the Collegium’s recently adopted policy of shifting judges who are likely to be appointed as Chief Justices at least two months prior to the retirement of the sitting Chief Justice. The move is intended to allow the incoming judge sufficient time to familiarise themselves with the functioning of the High Court before assuming office as Chief Justice.
