Centre Notifies Transfer of Four High Court Chief Justices; Clears Elevation of Five Others

In a significant reshuffle, the Central Government has notified the transfer of four Chief Justices across various High Courts, following recommendations made by the Supreme Court Collegium on May 26, 2025.

As per the notification issued today:

  • Justice Manindra Mohan Shrivastava, currently Chief Justice of the Rajasthan High Court, has been transferred to the Madras High Court as its Chief Justice. A judge from the Chhattisgarh High Court, Justice Shrivastava was serving as Acting Chief Justice before his elevation to the top post in Rajasthan on February 2, 2024.

  • Justice Aparesh Kumar Singh, Chief Justice of the Tripura High Court, will now head the Telangana High Court. He originally hails from the Jharkhand High Court and took charge in Tripura on April 11, 2023.

  • Justice M.S. Ramachandra Rao, currently leading the Jharkhand High Court, has been transferred to the Tripura High Court. He belongs to the Telangana High Court and assumed office in Jharkhand on September 27, 2024.

  • Justice K.R. Shriram, presently the Chief Justice of the Madras High Court, will take over as Chief Justice of the Rajasthan High Court. His parent High Court is Bombay, and he was appointed to the Madras High Court’s top post on September 26, 2024.

In addition to these transfers, the government has also cleared the elevation of five judges as Chief Justices of different High Courts.\
