CJI Surya Kant Intervenes For Release Of Lawyers Detained During Protest Outside Supreme Court

Chief Justice of India Surya Kant has intervened to secure the release of lawyers detained while protesting outside the Supreme Court and taken to the Yamuna Sports Complex.

The intervention followed an urgent representation by the Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA), which raised concerns over the alleged use of excessive force against protesting advocates, including women lawyers.

The SCBA passed a resolution on the issue on Friday morning. Advocate Devvrat, President of the Supreme Court Advocates-on-Record Association, also brought the matter to the CJI's attention and confirmed that he had communicated with the authorities seeking the lawyers' release.

Solicitor General Tushar Mehta is also understood to have intervened in the matter. The detained lawyers are expected to be released soon.
