A special court in Bihar’s Darbhanga district on Friday ordered the immediate imprisonment of BJP MLA Mishrilal Yadav and his associate Suresh Yadav, sentencing them to three months in jail in connection with a 2019 assault case.
The order was passed by Additional District and Sessions Judge Suman Kumar Diwakar of the Special MP/MLA Court, who dismissed Yadav’s appeal seeking relief and upheld the original sentence.
According to Assistant Public Prosecutor Renu Jha, the MLA had filed an appeal challenging the February 2025 verdict, which had sentenced both men to three months’ imprisonment and imposed a fine of ₹500 each. The next hearing in the case is scheduled for May 27.
The case stems from a complaint by Umesh Mishra, who alleged that he was assaulted by the MLA and his associates outside his residence on January 29, 2019. The initial sentence was handed down by Special Judge-cum-Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Karuna Nidhi Prasad Arya earlier this year.
As he was being taken into custody on Friday, Mishrilal Yadav told reporters, “I had filed an appeal against the February order of the MP/MLA court, which was rejected by the court today. I respect the verdict of the court.”
On Thursday, the same court had refused to hear his plea for pardon and directed his judicial custody.
