The Delhi Bar Association (Tis Hazari) has issued a notification exempting its members from wearing black coats in the District Court during the summer months.
According to the notice dated May 24, advocates are permitted to forego black coats from May 16 to September 30, in line with an amendment under Section 49(1)(gg) of the Advocates Act, 1961. This provision allows the Bar Council of India (BCI) to frame rules regarding the dress code for advocates, taking into account climatic conditions.
"The members are free to appear in courts subordinate to the Delhi High Court without wearing black coats," the notice stated. However, it also advised members to strictly follow the rest of the prescribed dress code, which remains mandatory.
The announcement was signed by Vikas Goyal, Secretary of the Delhi Bar Association.
