The Delhi High Court on Thursday directed the removal of derogatory and obscene content posted online against Bollywood actress Tabassum Jamal Hashmi, popularly known as Tabu, while hearing her plea seeking protection of her personality rights.

Justice Jyoti Singh passed an interim order in the actress' suit, directing the takedown of several social media posts and links hosted on platforms including Facebook, Instagram and Reddit.

Senior Advocate Swathi Sukumar represented Tabu, while Advocate Varun Pathak appeared on behalf of Meta Platforms.

The case is the latest in a series of personality rights matters before the Delhi High Court, which has increasingly granted protection to public figures against unauthorised, defamatory and misleading online content.

In recent months, the High Court has passed similar orders in favour of cricketers Abhishek Sharma, Yuvraj Singh and Sunil Gavaskar; Congress leader Shashi Tharoor; Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan; entrepreneurs Aman Gupta and Raj Shamani; actors Allu Arjun, Mohanlal, Kajol Devgan, R. Madhavan, Jr NTR, Nagarjuna, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Abhishek Bachchan and Salman Khan; filmmaker Karan Johar; singer Jubin Nautiyal; spiritual leaders Sri Sri Ravi Shankar and Aniruddhacharya; and journalist Sudhir Chaudhary, including in cases involving AI-generated and misleading content.
