Delhi HC Seeks Final Plan for Foot-Over-Bridge for Soldiers

The Delhi High Court on Wednesday directed authorities to submit a final plan for constructing a foot-over-bridge (FOB) to ease access for Rajputana Rifles soldiers who currently have to cross a foul-smelling drain to reach their parade ground.

A Division Bench of Justice Prathiba M. Singh and Justice Manmeet Pritam Singh Arora was hearing the matter suo motu, based on a news report highlighting the unsanitary and inconvenient path the soldiers must take from their barracks.

The Court asked the Public Works Department (PWD), Delhi Traffic Police, and the Delhi Cantonment Board to convene a joint meeting and finalise the construction details.

“Let a plan be finalised for the construction of the FOB,” the Bench directed, while calling for a report outlining the design, estimated budget, and construction timeline.

The Court noted that although the project had been previously approved, construction had not commenced. It clarified that the PWD would be responsible for the cost of the FOB, and if necessary, the Delhi Cantonment Board could seek assistance from an Army agency.
