Recently, two public interest litigation (PIL) petitions have been filed before the Delhi High Court challenging the police action against protesters at Jantar Mantar in the national capital.

The petitions were mentioned on Wednesday before a Bench comprising Chief Justice Devendra Kumar Upadhyaya and Justice Tejas Karia, with the petitioners seeking an urgent hearing.

Appearing for the petitioners, a lawyer told the Court,

"This incident has shaken the conscience of the nation."

Taking note of the submission, the Bench agreed to hear the matter later in the day.

A similar request for urgent listing had also been made before the High Court on Tuesday.

The petitions relate to the police action against students and members of the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP), an online satirical collective, who have been protesting at Jantar Mantar and other parts of central Delhi. The protesters are demanding accountability for repeated examination paper leaks and seeking the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.

The protesters had planned a march towards Parliament on Monday, but Delhi Police stopped the procession. According to reports, the police used lathi charge and tear gas to disperse the crowd, leaving several protesters injured.

The protests have also drawn political attention. On Tuesday, Congress leaders, including Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi, staged a demonstration outside Prime Minister Narendra Modi's residence. During the protest, police detained several leaders, and Rahul Gandhi reportedly suffered minor bruises in the scuffle.
