Gauhati HC Grants Bail in Red Fort Blast Facebook Comment Case

The Gauhati High Court has granted regular bail to a man who was arrested for allegedly posting an objectionable comment on Facebook in relation to a bomb blast near the Red Fort.

The bench headed by Justice Pranjal Das, while allowing the bail application, observed, “Without going into the merit of the case; only considering the period of detention and completion of investigation, petitioner shall be allowed to go on bail bond of Rs.25,000/- with one suitable surety of like amount to the satisfaction of the learned concerned Court.”\.

As placed before the Gauhati High Court, the petitioner was arrested on 13.11.2025 in connection with a case registered under Sections 152, 196(1), 197(2) and 353(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023. The FIR arose from an allegedly objectionable comment posted on Facebook in relation to a bomb blast near the Red Fort in Delhi.

During the hearing, the Additional Public Prosecutor informed the Court that the investigation was nearly complete and that the charge sheet had already been filed.

Accordingly, while granting bail, the Gauhati High Court directed that the petitioner shall cooperate with the investigation, shall not hamper or tamper with evidence, and shall not attempt to influence any witnesses. The Court made it clear that any violation or breach of the imposed conditions would result in cancellation of bail.

The bail application was, consequently, disposed of.
