A Gurugram court on Friday sent Kalyan Bainsla, the driver accused of hitting a woman biker, and co-accused Lavneesh to 14 days of judicial custody.

Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMIC) Nidhi Beniwal passed the order after the two-day police custody of the accused ended. They had been remanded to Gurugram Police custody on Wednesday, two days after their arrest from Rajasthan.

The accused were arrested in connection with a case registered at Sector 55/56 Police Station under Sections 109 (attempt to murder), 281 (rash driving) and 125 (act endangering the life or personal safety of others) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

The police have also invoked Sections 78 (stalking) and 79 (word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman) of the BNS.

The case was registered after the victim, Shivani Chauhan, posted a video on social media on Sunday showing a vehicle allegedly driven by Bainsla, a gym owner, speeding towards her and hitting her motorcycle on Golf Course Road. The incident was recorded by a camera mounted on her bike.

Chauhan, who uses the name Sia on social media, can be seen falling from the motorcycle following the collision. She has alleged that Bainsla, referred to as Kalyan Singh in court records, had harassed her before hitting her bike and fled the scene after the incident.

Following the circulation of the video on social media, Gurugram Police registered a suo motu case.

The police had initially not invoked the offence of attempt to murder. Section 109 of the BNS was subsequently added to the case.

The incident drew widespread attention on social media, with calls for strict action against those responsible.
