Gurugram Police have arrested Kalyan Bainsla, the driver accused of hitting a woman sports bike rider on Golf Course Road, along with another accused, Lavnish Gurjar.

The two accused were arrested from Dausa in Rajasthan on Tuesday, police said.

The arrests came after CCTV footage showed a white sedan suddenly swerving to the right and hitting Sia, who was riding an Aprilia RS 457 sports bike. The impact threw her onto the road, while her bike slid across the road, producing sparks.

Based on the CCTV footage, Gurugram Police added an attempt to murder charge against the accused driver. The offence carries a maximum punishment of up to 10 years in prison.

Before the arrest, Sia had described the incident as a clear hit-and-run and alleged that the driver had deliberately hit her before speeding away.

“He thinks he will just hit a woman and speed away and nothing would happen to him,” she told NDTV.

Sia’s father, Rohshan Chauhan, also said that the family would continue to pursue the case until the accused was punished.

The accused had earlier appeared in a media interview from an undisclosed location. He claimed that he did not know whether the biker was a man or a woman and alleged that only one side of the incident had been presented.

He also questioned why videos involving one of Sia’s male friends had not surfaced. While expressing sympathy for Sia, he said, “I felt very sorry for that girl.”

Sia, however, questioned his claim and said his actions after the crash did not show any concern for her safety.

“If you really felt sorry for me, then why didn’t you stop? It was your responsibility. If you hit me, you should have stopped and checked whether I was injured,” she said.

She further said that the accident could have resulted in much more serious consequences, including fatal injuries.

Sia also criticised the accused for allegedly fleeing the scene without checking on her condition.

“The videos clearly show how they fled. They did not stop even for a second to check whether the person they had hit was alive or dead,” she said.
