The bail application of Indian criminal lawyer Vijay Aggarwal, who is facing sexual assault charges in the United Kingdom, will be heard by the Southwark Crown Court in London on September 23.

According to an official communication issued by the Court, the matter has been listed as a further case management hearing and is expected to last approximately one hour. The hearing has been reserved for the trial judge, if one is allocated by that date.

Arraignment and Bail Application

Apart from Aggarwal’s bail plea, the Court is expected to consider the arraignment of both accused persons and other case management issues.

The Court may also consider any application concerning the pre-recorded cross-examination of witnesses.

Aggarwal is presently in custody and is facing four counts of sexual assault in the UK.

His assistant and co-accused Manpreet Kaur has been charged with two counts of intentionally encouraging or assisting sexual assault. Her bail application has already been rejected.

Trial Fixed for March 2027

The Southwark Crown Court has fixed March 15, 2027 as the date for commencement of the trial. The trial is expected to continue for approximately four weeks.

Aggarwal, who has represented fugitive businessman Mehul Choksi, was arrested after Metropolitan Police officers went to his rented property on Brick Street in Mayfair on August 11 following reports of alleged sexual assaults.

He was subsequently arrested and charged.

Investigation Continues

During a hearing on September 10, prosecutors informed the Court that the investigation involved three complainants.

The prosecution also disclosed that an additional allegation of rape had emerged during the ongoing investigation. However, the allegation is separate from the four sexual assault charges already brought against Aggarwal.

The prosecution had earlier sought additional time before finalising the indictment, citing the complexity of the investigation.

Aggarwal’s lawyers opposed his continued detention and described him as a person of “exemplary good character.”

He remains in custody pending the September 23 hearing, when the Court will consider his bail application along with other procedural issues.
