Justice Alpesh Y. Kogje Elevated as Judge of Madhya Pradesh High Court

Justice Alpesh Y. Kogje of the Gujarat High Court has been elevated to the Madhya Pradesh High Court, marking a significant development in the higher judiciary.

Justice Kogje was elevated as an Additional Judge of the Gujarat High Court on April 6, 2016, and was subsequently confirmed as a permanent judge on March 15, 2018.

His elevation comes after his name had been under consideration for a senior judicial position in the Madhya Pradesh High Court. Reports had earlier indicated that Justice Kogje was being considered for appointment as the next Chief Justice of the Madhya Pradesh High Court.

Justice Kogje has also served as the Executive Chairman of the Gujarat State Legal Services Authority and has been associated with various legal services initiatives at the national level.

Earlier Collegium Transfer Recommendation

Justice Kogje had previously been recommended by the Supreme Court Collegium in August 2023 for transfer from the Gujarat High Court to the Allahabad High Court. That recommendation was part of a wider transfer exercise involving several High Court judges.

The latest development places Justice Kogje in the Madhya Pradesh High Court and assumes significance in the context of the upcoming leadership changes in the High Courts.
