The Central government has appointed Justice Biswadeep Bhattacharjee as a permanent judge of the Meghalaya High Court, effective from the date he assumes office.
Justice Bhattacharjee was serving as an additional judge since August 1, 2023. His elevation was recommended by the Supreme Court Collegium on July 1, led by Chief Justice of India BR Gavai along with Justices Surya Kant and Vikram Nath.
A seasoned legal professional, Justice Bhattacharjee began practising law in 1993, handling civil, criminal, service, and constitutional matters. He served as Government Advocate from 2002 to 2012, later became Additional Advocate General for Meghalaya, and was designated Senior Advocate in 2021
