The Supreme Court Collegium has recommended the appointment of Justice Krushna Ram Mohapatra, presently a judge of the Orissa High Court, as the next Chief Justice of the Chhattisgarh High Court.

The recommendation was made at the Collegium's meeting held on August 6, 2026.

Justice Mohapatra has been recommended to succeed the incumbent Chief Justice of the Chhattisgarh High Court, whose tenure is set to end upon retirement on September 4, 2026.

The Collegium's recommendation comes as part of the process for ensuring continuity in the leadership of the Chhattisgarh High Court following the retirement of the incumbent Chief Justice.

If approved by the Central Government and subsequently notified, Justice Mohapatra will assume charge as Chief Justice of the Chhattisgarh High Court.

Justice Krushna Ram Mohapatra is currently serving as a judge of the High Court of Orissa. His elevation to the Chief Justice's post will mark his move from the Orissa High Court to head the Chhattisgarh High Court.

The recommendation is subject to the completion of the statutory and administrative process for appointment and issuance of the formal notification.
