Kerala Court Sentences Brothers to Life Imprisonment for Killing Sister Over Second Marriage

A Kerala court on Thursday sentenced two brothers to life imprisonment for murdering their sister in 2012, after she decided to remarry.

Thalassery First Additional District Judge Philip Thomas awarded life terms to K N Ismail and K N Firoz under Section 302 of the Indian Penal Code, according to the public prosecutor. The court also imposed a fine of ₹60,000 on each convict.

As per the prosecution, the brothers opposed their sister Khadeeja’s decision to marry again. When she refused to relent, they invited her, her fiancé, and his family to their home under the guise of finalising wedding arrangements. Once there, they fatally stabbed Khadeeja and injured her fiancé.

Despite all witnesses turning hostile during the trial, the prosecutor credited the police’s thorough investigation for securing the conviction.
