The Kerala Government has increased the retirement age of judicial officers in the District Judiciary from 60 to 62 years.

The decision was taken through a government order issued on September 10, following directions of the Supreme Court in the All India Judges Association case.

On July 22, the Supreme Court had asked all States and Union Territories to consider increasing the retirement age of District Judges to 61 years after consulting their respective High Courts.

The State Government had initially not agreed to increase the retirement age. However, after a subsequent Supreme Court order on September 1, the issue was reconsidered and examined in detail.

The government order states that, in view of the Supreme Court's directions, the retirement age of judicial officers in Kerala's District Judiciary has been increased from 60 to 62 years.
