Kerala High Court To Roll Out WhatsApp Alerts For Case Updates From October 6

The Kerala High Court has announced that it will soon begin using WhatsApp messaging as part of its Case Management System (CMS) to provide faster and easier communication to advocates and litigants.

Starting October 6, the new feature will be rolled out in a phased manner. Through WhatsApp, parties will receive alerts regarding e-filing defects, case listing details, hearing proceedings, and other essential updates. The facility will cover advocates, parties-in-person, and litigants.

However, the High Court has clarified that WhatsApp alerts will not replace official notices, summons, or statutory processes, unless specifically notified. The move is intended to supplement, not substitute, existing modes of court communication.

The notification also warned users about the possibility of fraudulent or unofficial messages. It emphasized that only messages from the official sender ID should be trusted.

Importantly, the High Court said that non-receipt or delay in delivery of WhatsApp updates will not excuse parties from making necessary appearances or complying with court directions. Users have been advised to always cross-check details on the official court website for confirmation.

The notice further provides step-by-step instructions on how advocates and litigants can update their registered mobile numbers to enable this facility.
