Educator Faisal Khan, widely known as Khan Sir, was granted anticipatory bail on Monday by a Patna court in connection with a criminal case arising from a firing incident at his coaching institute earlier this year.
The court also extended anticipatory bail to three employees of Khan Global Studies (KGS) — Kanhaiya Kumar Singh, Ajit Kumar and Ankit Kumar Pandey. The two security guards accused of opening fire during the incident had previously secured regular bail.
The case relates to violence that erupted at the Khan Global Studies campus in Patna's Musallahpur Haat area in early June. According to reports, the incident followed a confrontation involving individuals linked to rival coaching institutes. A group of around 15 to 20 persons allegedly attacked the premises, pelting stones and damaging property.
Khan Sir has consistently alleged that the attack was orchestrated by a rival coaching institute amid ongoing competition in Patna's coaching industry for competitive examinations.
Based on a complaint filed by the coaching institute's manager, the police registered a case and arrested the director of the rival coaching institute along with two others over the alleged vandalism.
The investigation took a fresh turn after videos purportedly showing two KGS security guards firing licensed rifles outside the institute surfaced online. Police subsequently registered a separate FIR invoking charges including attempt to murder and provisions of the Arms Act.
During interrogation, the two security guards allegedly claimed that they had opened fire on the instructions of Khan Sir and other officials of the coaching institute. Following these statements, Khan Sir, the guards and several others were named as accused in the FIR.
Rejecting the allegations, Khan Sir has maintained that he never directed anyone to fire. He has asserted that the security personnel acted in self-defence after the institute came under attack. His legal team has also argued that the allegations were intended to tarnish his reputation.
The anticipatory bail application was heard by the Principal District and Sessions Court in Patna, which on Monday granted relief to Khan Sir and the three KGS staff members.
Meanwhile, police investigations into both the alleged vandalism at the coaching institute and the subsequent firing incident are ongoing.
