Know thy Judge: Justice J.K. Maheshwari

Born on June 29, 1961, in the small town of Joura in Morena district, Madhya Pradesh, Justice J.K. Maheshwari began his academic journey with a degree in Arts in 1982, followed by an LL.B. in 1985 and an LL.M. in 1991.

He enrolled as an Advocate with the State Bar Council of Madhya Pradesh on November 22, 1985, and built a diverse legal practice spanning civil, criminal, constitutional, service, and tax matters. He also served as an elected member of the M.P. State Bar Council.

Justice Maheshwari was elevated as an Additional Judge of the Madhya Pradesh High Court on November 25, 2005, and became a permanent judge on November 25, 2008. During his tenure at the High Court, he actively contributed to several committees aimed at improving judicial administration.

On October 7, 2019, he was appointed as the first Chief Justice of the newly formed Andhra Pradesh High Court. He later assumed charge as Chief Justice of the Sikkim High Court on January 6, 2021.

Justice Maheshwari was elevated to the Supreme Court of India on August 31, 2021, marking a significant milestone in a distinguished judicial career.
