Justice Prashant Kumar Mishra was born on August 29, 1964, in Raigarh, Chhattisgarh. He completed his B.Sc. and LL.B. from Guru Ghasidas University, Bilaspur.
He began his legal career in 1987, practicing in the District Court at Raigarh, and later at the High Courts of Madhya Pradesh (Jabalpur) and Chhattisgarh (Bilaspur), handling civil, criminal, and writ matters.
In 2005, he was designated as a Senior Advocate by the Chhattisgarh High Court. He also served as the Chairman of the Chhattisgarh State Bar Council, and held several key positions such as:
Member, Rule Making Committee of the Chhattisgarh High Court
Chancellor’s Nominee, Executive Council of Guru Ghasidas University
Ex-Officio Member, Executive Council of Hidayatullah National Law University, Raipur
He was appointed Additional Advocate General of Chhattisgarh in 2004, and became the Advocate General in 2007, a role he held until his elevation to the bench.
Justice Mishra was elevated as a Judge of the Chhattisgarh High Court on December 10, 2009. He later served as Acting Chief Justice of the same court (June to October 2021), and was appointed as the Chief Justice of the Andhra Pradesh High Court on October 13, 2021.
He was elevated to the Supreme Court of India on May 19, 2023.
