Madras HC Principal Bench Suspends Operations Due to Severe Weather Conditions

Due to inclement weather conditions, operations at the Principal Bench of the Madras High Court have been temporarily suspended. M. Jothiraman, the Registrar General of the Madras High Court, has released a circular announcing the cessation of activities at the Principal Seat of the High Court as well as all other Courts within the Chennai District Judiciary for the day.

This morning, a new circular was issued, superseding yesterday's circular, in response to the impact of Michaung Cyclone. The Chennai Airport has temporarily halted operations until 11 pm tonight. Additionally, Section 144 has been enforced on Beach Road in Puducherry as a precautionary measure. Urging public safety, the Greater Chennai Corporation has advised everyone to remain indoors. Tragically, two casualties have been reported following a wall collapse in Chennai caused by heavy rainfall.

''Considering the continuous incessant rainfalls, the forecast alert, the precarious situation prevailing and taking into consideration requests of the Hon’ble Judges, Members of the Bar, Staff members and others and in view of the Government Order declaring holiday today, the circular issued yesterday is recalled. It is now informed that there will be no functioning of the courts in the Principal Seat of the High Court and all the courts of the Chennai District Judiciary today, 4th December 2023.

In so far as the functioning of the courts in the Districts of Tiruvallur, Kancheepuram and Chengalpattu are concerned, the Principal District Judges may take a decision on the conditions prevailing in their respective district.''
