The Madhya Pradesh High Court has rejected the State government's response in a public interest litigation (PIL) raising concerns over noise pollution caused by loudspeakers at religious places and public events.

A Division Bench of the Indore Bench observed that the affidavit submitted by the State failed to properly address the issues raised in the petition. The Court said the response was not satisfactory and directed the government to file a fresh and detailed affidavit explaining the measures taken to regulate the use of loudspeakers and enforce noise pollution norms.

The PIL claims that loudspeakers used during religious gatherings and processions often exceed the permissible noise limits under the Noise Pollution (Regulation and Control) Rules. It also states that excessive noise causes inconvenience to residents, especially students, elderly people, patients, and others living in the surrounding areas.

While hearing the matter, the High Court said that simply referring to the existing legal provisions was not enough. It asked the State to provide clear details about the action taken to ensure compliance with the law, including the process for granting permission to use loudspeakers, the system in place to monitor violations, and the action taken against those who violate the prescribed noise limits.

The Court directed the State government to submit a comprehensive affidavit containing factual information rather than a general reply. The matter will be heard again after the fresh affidavit is filed.
