Mumbai Court Restrains Defamatory Content Against Salman Khan

Recently, Mumbai Court directed filmmaker Abhinav Kashyap and the YouTube channel Bollywood Thikana to stop making or sharing defamatory statements against actor Salman Khan and his family.

The direction came in a defamation case filed by Khan over alleged insulting remarks made by Kashyap during interviews and podcasts uploaded on YouTube and other social media platforms. The channel is owned by Komal Mehru and hosted by Khushboo Hazare.

The Court said the statements were defamatory, abusive and harmful to Khan’s reputation, and noted that they lowered his image in the eyes of the public.

Rejecting Kashyap’s defence of free speech, the Court said freedom of expression does not permit defamatory remarks. It added that everyone has the right to protect their privacy and reputation.

Accordingly, the Court restrained Kashyap and the channel’s hosts from posting or circulating any defamatory content against Salman Khan or his family on social media
