Petition in Kerala HC Seeks Ban on ‘The Kerala Story 2’ Censor Certificate

A 26-year-old biologist from Kerala has approached the Kerala High Court challenging the upcoming film The Kerala Story 2, saying it unfairly targets Kerala and its people.

The petitioner, Sreedev Namboodiri from Kannur district, has questioned both the title and content of the film. He has asked the Court to cancel the censor certificate granted by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC).

In his plea, he said the CBFC did not properly examine whether the film could affect public order, morality, or national integrity, as required under the Cinematograph Act.

He also claimed that the film shows Kerala in a negative and stereotypical way. Referring to the trailer, the petitioner said the story involves women from different states and is mainly set in northern India, yet the title and scenes wrongly project Kerala in a bad light.

According to him, such portrayal could create misunderstanding and alienate Keralites, even though people from Kerala live and work across India and abroad, contributing to the economy and hosting migrant workers from other states.
