The Central Government has notified the appointment of Chief Justices to eight High Courts across the country. The appointments have been made by the President of India in exercise of constitutional powers and in consultation with the Chief Justice of India. Union Minister of State for Law and Justice Arjun Ram Meghwal announced the appointments on Saturday.

The newly appointed Chief Justices are:

1. Justice Valluri Kameswar Rao – Chief Justice, Patna High Court
   Presently Judge, Delhi High Court.

2. Justice Ravindra V. Ghuge – Chief Justice, Calcutta High Court
   Presently Judge, Bombay High Court.

3. Justice Sanjay Kumar Agrawal – Chief Justice, Rajasthan High Court
   Presently Judge, Chhattisgarh High Court.

4. Justice Mahesh Chandra Tripathi – Chief Justice, Bombay High Court
   Presently Judge, Allahabad High Court.

5. Justice Ashwani Kumar Mishra – Chief Justice, Punjab & Haryana High Court
   Presently Judge, Punjab & Haryana High Court.

6. Justice Krushna Ram Mohapatra – Chief Justice, Chhattisgarh High Court
   Presently Judge, Orissa High Court.

7. Justice Alpesh Yeshwant Kogje – Chief Justice, Madhya Pradesh High Court
   Presently Judge, Gujarat High Court.

8. Justice Pushpendra Singh Bhati – Chief Justice, Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh High Court
   Presently Judge, Rajasthan High Court. 

The appointments follow a series of recommendations made by the Supreme Court Collegium, including recommendations dated August 31, 2026 concerning several of these High Courts. The Collegium had recommended Justice Sanjay K. Agrawal for Rajasthan and Justice Pushpendra Singh Bhati for Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh, among others. 

The latest appointments will bring regular leadership to the concerned High Courts and mark a significant reshuffle in the higher judiciary.
