The Union Government has extended the tenure of Senior Advocate R. Venkataramani, enabling him to continue as the Attorney General for India for an additional two years starting October 1, 2025.
A notification issued on Friday by the Ministry of Law and Justice (Department of Legal Affairs) stated:
“The President is pleased to re-appoint Shri R. Venkataramani, Senior Advocate, as Attorney General for India for a further term of two years with effect from 01.10.2025.”
Venkataramani, a seasoned lawyer with over four decades of legal practice, was first appointed to the post in October 2022 for a three-year term. His current tenure was due to conclude on September 30, 2025. With the extension, he will now serve as the country’s top law officer until September 30, 2027.
