RCB Moves HC to Quash FIR in Chinnaswamy Stadium Stampede Case

RCB Moves HC to Quash FIR in Chinnaswamy Stadium Stampede Case

Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) has approached the Karnataka High Court seeking to quash the criminal case registered against it in connection with the stampede at M Chinnaswamy Stadium, which claimed 11 lives.

DNA Entertainment Networks Pvt Ltd, the event management company responsible for organising the event, has also filed a separate petition challenging the FIR.

In its plea, Royal Challengers Sports Limited (RCSL), which owns the RCB franchise, asserted that it has been falsely implicated in the case. The company submitted that it had issued clear communication on social media regarding the limited availability of passes and had mandated pre-registration even for free passes.

RCSL also alleged that the stadium gates, scheduled to open at 1:45 PM, were delayed until 3:00 PM, leading to a sudden crowd surge. The event organiser, DNA Entertainment, has attributed the tragedy to a failure in crowd management by the police.
