RIP: Advocate Shanti Bhushan, Former Law Minister passed away

Former Law Minister and Senior Lawyer Shanti Bhushan passed away today after a short illness. He was 97 years old.

He was the Law Minister of India from 1977 to 1979 in Murarji Desai Government.

Mr. Bhushan had a number of cases in his kitty. He represented Raj Narain against Indira Gandhi. He appeared in Mumbai Bomb Blast Case, Arundhati Roy Case, Shaukat Hussain, Transparency International, HD Devegowda, the Birla Corporation assets case, and a number of other cases.

Mr. Bhushan is survived by two sons who are senior advocates namely Prashant Bhushan and Jayant Bhushan.

He was a founder of the NGO Centre for Public Interest Litigation. He was also associated with India Against Corruption and Anna Hazare.

Mr. Bhushan was born in Uttar Pradesh.
