Sadhguru Approaches HC Over Misuse of Name and Image via AI and Rogue Websites

Today, spiritual leader Jagdish Vasudev, popularly known as Sadhguru, approached the Delhi High Court, seeking protection of his personality rights from unauthorized use by rogue websites and AI-generated content.

Appearing before Justice Saurabh Banerjee, Sadhguru’s counsel contended that several websites are exploiting his name and image to promote and sell unrelated products.

“They are using my client’s likeness to market items like a book titled Garbh Yatra, falsely suggesting his endorsement. The public is being misled on the strength of his reputation—this is outright fraud. These misuses are being powered by AI,” the counsel argued.

In response, Google’s counsel clarified the intermediary’s position, stating that the platform acts only upon receiving specific complaints. “There’s no proactive filtering mechanism. If he [Sadhguru] reports a particular URL, we verify the claim. If it's legitimate, we take it down. If there's doubt, we seek clarification,” the counsel explained.

After briefly hearing the arguments, the court reserved its order.
