SC to hold a hackathon to generate innovative ideas for improvising registry processes such as "filing" and "case listing"

The Supreme Court of India will hold its first-ever Hackathon Event under the leadership of the Chief Justice of India, Justice D.Y. Chandrachud. The exercise's goal is to generate new ideas and investigate practical solutions to improve the current filing and listing process.

Under the supervision of Justice Sanjay Kishan Kaul, such an event would be organised to identify innovative ideas and to explore practical propositions for refining and improving the registry's current process.

"This will be an event in which duty holders, stakeholders, and beneficiaries will engage in collaborative brainstorming, with the goal of bringing in evolution by incorporating new methodologies for upgrading the ecosystem by generating out-of-the-box open innovative ideas," says the event's description.

Duty holders (officers, Registry officials, law clerks deputed in residential officers of Supreme Court Judges), stakeholders, and beneficiaries are encouraged to participate in collaborative brainstorming to generate out-of-the-box/innovative ideas to improve the filing and listing ecosystem as a whole. The best eighteen suggestions/innovative ideas will be chosen and given the opportunity to present their vision for the idea/suggestion in a presentation.

The Hackathon's first and second-place finishers will be honoured. Larger Hackathons on various topics of importance to the efficient functioning of the judicial system are proposed to be organised in the future under the aegis of various Committees of Hon'ble Judges of the Supreme Court. The above-mentioned information was revealed in a Press Note issued on December 5, 2022, which stated that the notification would be published soon. The necessary information for applying for the event would be provided therein. The Press Note also indicates that larger Hackathons will be organised in the future by various Supreme Court Committees on various important issues, primarily to improve the functioning of the justice delivery system.
