The Supreme Court Advocates-on-Record Association (SCAORA) held its General Body Meeting on August 12, 2026, at the Indian Society of International Law in New Delhi. Members unanimously and majority-passed critical resolutions concerning supreme court proceedings, registry mechanisms, welfare trust structures, and professional infrastructure.
Key Highlights & Resolutions Passed
-
Discontinuation of Daily Sequencing: The association resolved to abandon the existing system of daily sequencing. Matters in the Supreme Court Cause List will now be taken up strictly by their serial numbers from start to finish, ensuring greater predictability and uniformity for Advocates-on-Record (AoRs).
-
Streamlined Defect Scrutiny: To curb filing delays, SCAORA resolved that registry defects must be scrutinized and notified within 48 hours. Time spent by the registry in curing defects will be excluded, requiring no condonation of delay applications. Additionally, defects must be marked comprehensively during initial scrutiny with no fresh defects added post-rectification.
-
Advocate Chambers Near ITO: The general body resolved that the 1.92 acres of land allotted near ITO should be used exclusively for constructing proper, functional, and affordable chambers rather than workstations. They emphasized that development plans must be deliberated with the SCAORA Executive Committee.
-
Welfare Trust Amendment: Members approved the induction of all 12 elected Executive Committee members of SCAORA as ex officio Trustees with voting rights on the Supreme Court Advocates-on-Record Welfare Trust.
-
Membership Fee Hike: Citing rising operational expenses and expanding institutional activities, annual membership subscriptions will increase from Rs. 500 to Rs. 1,000.
-
Urgent Mentions: Through an additional agenda item permitted by the chair, the association resolved that urgent matters can be mentioned in open court upon producing the Diary Number.
The meeting concluded with official certifications signed by SCAORA President Devvrat, Honorary Secretary Yugandhara Pawar Jha, and other executive members and observers.
