Son Stabs 82-Year-Old Father to Death After Losing Property Case in Maharashtra

An 82-year-old man was allegedly stabbed to death by his son in Maharashtra's Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar shortly after securing a court order directing the son's eviction from his house in a long-running property dispute.

The deceased, Jafar Qamaruddin Sayyed Patel, a retired employee of the Water Resources Department, had been engaged in a legal battle for nearly two years to reclaim possession of his home from his son, Abdul Rehman Abdul Jafar.

According to reports, Patel accused his son, a medical representative by profession, of repeatedly abusing and assaulting family members, prompting him to leave his residence and move to his daughter's home in Pune. He subsequently approached the court seeking eviction of his son from the property.

The court recently ruled in Patel's favour and ordered the son's eviction, restoring possession of the house to the elderly man.

However, tragedy struck while Patel was returning home from court with the eviction order. Police said the accused allegedly intercepted the autorickshaw carrying his father and sister, dragged the elderly man out, and attacked him with a knife in the middle of a public road.

Patel sustained fatal injuries in the assault and died on the spot. His daughter, who was accompanying him, also suffered injuries during the attack.

The accused was arrested shortly after the incident. Police have launched an investigation into the case.
