'Stand in Corner with Hands Raised' : Delhi Court Punishes Man for Contempt

A Delhi court on Thursday ordered a man to stand in a courtroom corner with his hands raised for the entire day as punishment in a contempt case. The man, identified as Kuldeep, failed to furnish bail bonds despite repeated calls between 10 am and 11:40 am.

Judge Saurabh Goyal of the Dwarka court held Kuldeep guilty of contempt under Section 228 of the IPC for willfully disobeying the court’s earlier directions.

“For wasting the court’s time… the accused is convicted for contempt,” the judge said, directing him to remain standing with his hands in the air until the court rose for the day.

Kuldeep was also taken into custody and remanded to 14 days’ judicial custody. The court directed that he be produced on the next date of hearing
