The Supreme Court on Wednesday, August 13, revoked the bail earlier granted by the Delhi High Court to Olympian wrestler Sushil Kumar in connection with the murder of Sagar Dhankhar.
The top court directed Kumar to surrender to authorities within a week.
A bench comprising Justices Sanjay Karol and Prashant Kumar Mishra passed the order while hearing an appeal filed by Ashok Dhankad, father of the victim, challenging the March 2025 High Court decision that had allowed Kumar’s bail.
Sushil Kumar was arrested in May 2021 in the murder case of 27-year-old former junior national wrestling champion Sagar Dhankhar at Delhi’s Chhatrasal Stadium. The Delhi High Court had granted bail after noting that only 30 out of 186 prosecution witnesses had been examined in the three years since the trial began.
Ashok Dhankad approached the Supreme Court alleging intimidation of witnesses by Kumar. The petition claimed that Kumar had threatened a key witness during his earlier interim release on bail.
