Supreme Court Collegium Recommends Four Advocates for Appointment as Orissa High Court Judges

The Supreme Court Collegium on Tuesday, August 18, 2026, recommended the appointment of four advocates as judges of the Orissa High Court.

The recommendations were approved at a meeting of the Collegium held on August 18. The advocates recommended for elevation are:

  1. Sasmita Tripathy

  2. Aditya Narayan Das

  3. Rajjeet Roy

  4. Gautam Misra

The recommendations come at a time when the Orissa High Court is functioning with only 17 active judges, against its sanctioned strength of 33 judges.

The High Court is also expected to see further vacancies this year, with two judges, including Chief Justice Harish Tandon, scheduled to retire.

The appointment of the four advocates, if approved by the Union Government and subsequently notified, would strengthen the judicial strength of the High Court and help address the existing vacancies.
