The Supreme Court of India has declared Friday, September 11, 2026, as a holiday in view of the upcoming BRICS Summit and the extensive security and logistical arrangements in the national capital.

The decision comes after the Delhi Government and Central Government had already announced the closure of government offices in Delhi and New Delhi on September 11, citing the scale of the international summit and the need to minimise inconvenience to the public.

The Supreme Court's cause-list portal also presently shows no matters listed for September 11, with the next listed working day appearing as September 15. 

The holiday is expected to affect the functioning of the Supreme Court, including regular judicial proceedings and administrative work, on September 11.

The decision comes against the backdrop of India hosting the 18th BRICS Leaders’ Summit in New Delhi. The national capital has been placed under extensive security and traffic arrangements for the high-level international event.

The Supreme Court itself has been closely associated with BRICS judicial engagements this year. It hosted the BRICS Chief Justices’ Forum in New Delhi from September 4 to 6, 2026, with Chief Justices and senior judicial leaders from BRICS member and partner countries participating in the forum. 

With September 11 falling on a Friday and September 12 and 13 being Saturday and Sunday and having holiday on account of Ganesh Chaturthi on Monday, the closure will result in a four-day break for the Court.
