Supreme Court to Hear CJP Protest-Related Plea on Sunday; Justice Joymalya Bagchi and Justice V. Mohana to Preside

The Supreme Court of India will hold a special sitting on Sunday, October 11, 2026, to hear a plea filed by Shailendra Mani Tripathi concerning the ongoing Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) protest and alleged non-compliance with the Court’s directions regarding public transport services in Delhi.

As per the Supreme Court’s miscellaneous hearing cause list, the matter will be taken up by a Bench comprising Justice Joymalya Bagchi and Justice V. Mohana at 10:30 AM in Court No. 18.

Plea Seeks Action Over Alleged Non-Compliance with Supreme Court Directions

The matter, titled Shailendra Mani Tripathi v. Govind Mohan, is listed as Diary No. 63801/2026 under the category of fresh civil cases for admission. Sr. Advocate and Rajya Sabha MP Maneka Guruswami has also filed a petition which is also listed along with the main matter.

The plea reportedly seeks action over the alleged failure of authorities to comply with the Supreme Court’s October 9 directions concerning the operation of Delhi Metro services and railway services in view of the CJP protest scheduled in the national capital.

The petition names Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan as a respondent.

Supreme Court Had Called for Regulated Public Transport Services

On October 9, a Bench comprising Chief Justice of India Surya Kant, Justice Joymalya Bagchi and Justice V. Mohana considered concerns regarding restrictions on Metro and railway services ahead of the protest.

The Court observed that a complete prohibition on essential public transportation appeared to be excessive and emphasised the distinction between an outright ban and regulated movement of trains.

The Court recorded the assurance of the Solicitor General that the authorities would be asked to reconsider the restrictions and ensure that Metro and other railway services could operate in a regulated manner, without causing undue inconvenience to the public.

A fresh plea has now been listed for hearing on Sunday in connection with the alleged non-compliance with those directions. The allegations are yet to be adjudicated.
