Supreme Court to Hear Plea Seeking CBI Probe into Karur Stampede Linked to Vijay’s TVK Rally

The Supreme Court is set to hear on Friday a petition challenging the Madras High Court’s refusal to order a CBI probe into the Karur stampede that took place on September 27 during a political event organized by actor Vijay’s party, Tamizhaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK).

The plea was mentioned before Chief Justice of India BR Gavai, who agreed to list the matter for urgent hearing on Friday.

Earlier, on October 3, the Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court dismissed multiple petitions seeking a CBI investigation into the tragic incident, which claimed 41 lives. However, on the same day, the principal bench of the High Court directed the formation of a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the tragedy.
