On the occasion of Hindi Day, the Supreme Court of India has announced the launch of a new public information service in Hindi aimed at making important judicial information more accessible to citizens.
Under the proposed service, simple Hindi summaries of selected important judgments and orders of the Supreme Court will be made available to the public. Alongside these summaries, the Court will also provide a daily 15 to 30-minute Hindi audio and video bulletin covering important judicial developments. The official link to the concerned judgment or order will also be provided.
The initiative is being introduced particularly for the benefit of ordinary citizens, litigants and persons with disabilities. The objective is to help people understand important Supreme Court decisions, their implications and the further course of action in a language they are familiar with.
The use of audio and video formats is also expected to benefit people who may find it difficult to read or understand lengthy and complex legal documents.
The service will initially be launched in Hindi. The Supreme Court has indicated that efforts will subsequently be made to make the service available in other Indian languages in a phased manner.
This will enable citizens across different linguistic regions to access concise and easy-to-understand information about important Supreme Court judgments in their own languages.
The initiative seeks to make judicial information more accessible and connect the recognition of Indian languages with judicial public information.
By providing simplified summaries as well as audio and video content, the Supreme Court's initiative aims to bridge the gap between complex judicial decisions and the general public, thereby making important information about the justice system easier to understand.
The service is expected to commence shortly after the necessary arrangements are completed.
